Based in Brooklyn, New York, The Lys Collective sells coconut soy wax candles with a focus on sustainability, and it was our job to bring this brand’s story to life online.

BRAND design

The Lys Collective is a brand that’s meant to feel like home. We brought that vision to life with an earthy color palette, a minimal typography system with clean, sans serif lettering, and a signature-inspired logo mark stamped with the brand’s tagline: Consciously Curated in Brooklyn, New York.

This candle brand design paired perfectly with the brand strategy we defined together: encouraging conscious shoppers to slow down, savour every moment, and feel good about the brand they’re supporting. From the useful wick-measuring business cards to the seamless user experience the website provides, this brand was designed with the customer in mind. These candles are for people who care, and we want them to know that this is a business that cares about them too. 


Our goal for the business’s print and packaging design was to create maximum brand impact with as little environmental impact as possible. From the candle labels to the packaging materials, we made eco-friendly swaps and conscious choices that reflected the brand’s mission.

For the candle labels, we opted for a minimal design printed on FSC certifed paper that looks high-end and sleek on the recycled glass candle vessels. We kept the candles safe with GreenWrap, an eco-friendly alternative to bubble wrap, and filled the box void with biodegradable packing peanuts. This is all explained to customers on the brand’s web page dedicated to Sustainability and highlighted on the recycled paper care cards we included in every package.

The print and packaging design is made complete with recycled paper dust covers to protect the candle wax, recycled tissue paper, and recycled stickers, and eco-friendly, water-activated kraft packaging tape printed with soy ink.


Selling candles online can be a challenge. After all, how can you make someone fall in love with a scent they’ve never experienced? As a small candle business launching during a time when the market was already quite saturated, we knew The Lys Collective needed to stand out online.

Our approach to the brand’s website design was unique: we wanted to create an identity for each of the candles’ scents, and give shoppers a chance to connect with their favorite right away. We developed a stripped-back WordPress website that broke the mold of typical e-commerce design. With vivid copywriting and a minimal design that let the white-background candle photos take all the focus, the scents and story of the brand took over.
